We take animal welfare and animal care very seriously and are always striving to do the absolute best we can for our animals within our care. This pet care includes continually maintaining and upgrading enclosures, keeping up to date with the constant changes in animal welfare by reading new publications and attending annual workshops held by ABWAK, DEFRA and other animal organisations.
The well-being of our animals will not be compromised at any time. We are proud to carry the compulsory Animal Activities License in line with the Welfare of Animals Regulation 2018 and this requires routine inspections of our facilities, staff qualification and certification, husbandry plans and record keeping.
With this information, we feel we are providing you the best service, and when asked, we offer advise to others on how best to care for their pets. Here is a link to a breakdown the the Animal Welfare Act 2006 which all pet owners should abide by: Animal Welfare Act | RSPCA .
Our animals are ethically sourced, the majority being from a rescue or rehoming background. Each animal is fully health checked by our exotics vet and assessed on an individual basis to make sure their personalities, health and previous experiences make them suitable for any work they are involved in and under no circumstance are any of our animals forced to do anything it does not want to do, or partake in any activity that causes it stress or discomfort. When working, each one of our animals are given rest breaks to reduce any stress or discomfort.
Being sustainable for us, is not only important for our business but also for us as a family. We recycle all that we can, and any food waste is made into nutritious compost for our garden where we grow our own fruit and vegetables such as kale, carrots, potatoes, various lettuce, parsley, apple, pear, blackberries and strawberries, which feeds our family and our animals. The food we do purchase, we try to ensure no palm oil is an ingredient (this can be difficult sometimes), the packaging has reduced or no plastic, and recyclable, eggs are bought from the local farm, and our animal bedding such as straw, hay and woodchip bedding is also locally sourced by the local farm.
We like to work with businesses who share similar values to ourselves and ensure any suppliers we use are environmentally friendly and sustainable.
